Life Support Seminar

Nepal Trade Union Congress (NTUC) in support of JILAF and ILO organized Life Support Seminar in three districts namely Bhaktapur, Morang and Parsa on 4th, 6th and 8th of July respectively. More than 50 participants were participated in each program.
The main objective of the program is how to make access of informal workers to different facilities which provided by the Government of Nepal and other stockholders. Details of the program is
Under the SGRA project,the NTUC organized informal sector workers and their family members in Bhaktapur, Parsa and Morang districts as a network member and provide them network card for identification. For the above,NTUC offers them “Life Support Seminar “to give useful information to be able to access to the public services and vocational training such as Sewing, Knitting, Hair cutting, Beauticianand Candle Making, etc.to produce commodities through them and sell in the market. Some of the members are involved in other vocational training program which is implemented by Government of Nepal, the FNCCI and other stakeholders (what we call “Bridging”). Some of the trainees have already gotten jobs in the market. Those network members also have established own “Sahakari” and planned to establish shops to sell goods. The NTUC has also beenorganizing non-formal education program in nine districts of the country. “Sahakari”under the SGRA Project in Bhaktapur, Parsa and Morang, have been planning to provide school dresses to the children who are admitted in non-formal education program in district.The NTUC has also been unionizing workers within the trade union movement and has been providing skill development training to its members. The trained manpower produced goods and services supplied into market through cooperatives. Moreover, the NTUC has been working with policy makers as well as the government to introduce appropriate law, freed bonded form of labour and rights as well as welfare of the workers etc.
The program was attended by Ms. Asha Singh Rathor, Mr. Riyo Saito, Ms. Asako Yanase, Mr. Laxman Shahi, Mr. Prakash Sharma and Mr. Indra Deo Yadav.
