111th International Women Workers Day Observed

Nepal Trade Union Congress Women Committee Successfully observed 111th International Women Workers Day at Maitighar, Kathmandu, Nepal. With the Slogan "A new Social Contract For A Gender- Equitable" , women workers from Nepal Trade Union Congress Women Committee participated the program.

Sister, Sudha Dahal chaired the prgram whereas Brother Laxman Bahadur Basnet, former president of NTUC and General Secretary of South Asian Trade Union Council was Chief Guest of the program. NTUC vice president Bro Netra Bikram Thapa, Deputy General Secreatry Rajesh Palikhe also Radhika Kuinkel, central member and president, representatives of respectives affiliates union were present during the program.

Meanwhile, Brother Laxman Bahadur Basnet told that women needs to be educated and unionize in order to make their voices strengthen. Women are still vulnerable as the government is unable to find the culprits of rape, murder and harrassment to women. Also, Chairperson Sis Sudha Dahal urges government to safeguard ILO Convention 190. It is in favour of women workers if gender violence and workplace harrassment convention of ILO 190 is ratified by the government, she added.

The program was faciliated by Radha Chalise and Kabita Aryal. They raised the voices as partiipants were demonstrating playcards and pamplets about women rights and justice. About 500 people participated the program which started from 11:00 am and concluded at 1:00pm.
