14th GP Koirala Memorial Day Observed

Nepal Trade Union Congress (NTUC) observed 14th GP Koirala memorial day on 20 March 2024 amid a function organized in its central committee premise in Anamnagar, Kathmandu. NTUC President Mr. Yogendra Kumar Kunwar along with other NTUC officials offered garland to the statue of GP Koirala and lightening of candle during the programme. Members from all the 27 affiliates attended the program.
Meanwhile, the NTUC Women Committee organized an interaction program on 'the gender policy of NTUC at NTUC's central office. NTUC officials, representatives from others trade unions affiliated with JTUCC were present on the program. Major features of the policy included mainstreaming gender policy in the federation and its affiliates; ensuring equal opportunity and representation; elimination discrimination; conducting capacity building activities; establishing grievance handling mechanism within TU structures; implement code of conduct to combat violence and ensure effective coordination among trade union federations, JTUCC, government, employers and CSOs. Women leaders of trade unions had spoken on the need for joint efforts to ensure gender equality. Chief Guest NTUC President Mr. Yogendra Kumar Kunwar spoke on the need for robust coordination among Trade Unions as the rights of Trade Unions were being challenged on various grounds such as proclaiming the restricted areas, defining various services as most necessary services and curtailing trade union rights in the proposed civil service act. The program was chaired by Ms. Pramila Dhungana, President of Women Committee of NTUC and facilitated by Ms. Yashoda Karki Khadka, Vice-President of National Women Committee.
