Meeting held between NTUC Leadership with Mr. Ariel B. Castro, Desk Officer for Asia & Pacific in ILO/ACTRAV

A meeting between the Nepal Trade Union Congress (NTUC) leadership and an ILO team was held at NTUC office in Kathmandu on 27 March 2024. The meeting was attended by the President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Deputy General Secretary, Chief Executive Officer and Senior Programme Officer from NTUC side and ILO delegate.

During the meeting, Mr. Yogendra Kumar Kunwar, President of NTUC welcomed the ILO delegates in the NTUC office. He briefly described NTUC's current priorities and ongoing activities. He highlighted the national level priorities of the Trade Union movement such as rebuilding trade union images as more professional organizations, providing support services to the migrant workers at destination countries, implementation of the provisions of contribution based social security act and establishing service centers to provide educational and other services to the workers. Similarly, NTUC Treasurer briefly presented the need for service centers at the local level.

Mr. Ariel B. Castro, Desk Officer for Asia & Pacific spoke about issues of potential support area such as working on the amendment of the Trade Union Act and Labour Act. Mr. Saloman Rajbansi from ILO Nepal office also participated and shared his view in the meeting.
