Formalization of Informal Economy is the base of Nations' Development

14th June 2016, Kathmandu Nepal Trade Union Congress (NTUC) in support of JILAF and ILO organized Life Support Seminar in three districts namely Morang, Bhaktapur and Parsa on 11th, 12th and 14th of June 2016 respectively. More than 50 participants were participated in each program. The main objective of the program is how to make access of informal workers to different facilities which provided by the Government of Nepal and other stockholders. In the Biratnagar, Mr. Mahesh Acharya, Former Finance Minster was invited as a chief guest in the opening session. Mr. Acharya said that, "we have to formalize the informal economy to formal economy for the development and also the relationship between Japna and Nepal"  Treasurer of NTUC Mr. Yogendra Kunwar, Assistant General-Secretary of JILAF Mr. Ryo Saito and Regional President of NTUC Mr. Naryan Babu Karki were invited as guest in the opening ceremony and Mr. Shushil Koirala chaired the program. In the Bhaktapur, Mr. Khila Nath Dahal, President of NTUC was invited as a chief guest and he highlighted about the importance of this project to move forward the Trade Union movement. Mr. Pushkar Acharya, Member of Parliament and Former senior Vice-President of NTUC, Bhaktapur district president of Nepali Congress Party Mr. Udhav Thapa, Deputy Generla-Secretary of NTUC Ms. Asha Singh Rathour, Assistant General-Secretary of JILAF Mr. Ryo Saito and Mr. Kamal Kumar Bista were invited in the program as a guest. Mr. Bishnu Khadka, District President of NTUC chaired the program. In the Birgunj, Mr. Dev Raj Ghimire, CDO of Parsa district invited as a chief guest in the program and He said this project really help to develop the life style of workers somehow. Vice-President of NTUC Mr. Ayodhya Prasad yadav, Assistant General-Secretary of JILAF Mr. Ryo Saito invited as guest and Mr. Laxman Kurmi district President of NTUC chaired the program. Under the SGRA project, the NTUC organized informal sector workers and their family members in Bhaktapur, Parsa and Morang districts as a network member and provide them network card for identification. For the above, NTUC offers them “Life Support Seminar “to give useful information to be able to access to the public services and vocational training such as Sewing, Knitting, Hair cutting, Beautician and Candle Making, etc. to produce commodities through them and sell in the market. Some of the members are involved in other vocational training program which is implemented by Government of Nepal, the FNCCI and other stakeholders (what we call “Bridging”). Some of the trainees have already gotten jobs in the market. Those network members also have established own “Sahakari” and planned to establish shops to sell goods. The NTUC has also been organizing non-formal education program in nine districts of the country. “Sahakari” under the SGRA Project in Bhaktapur, Parsa and Morang, have been planning to provide school dresses to the children who are admitted in non-formal education program in district.The NTUC has also been unionizing workers within the trade union movement and has been providing skill development training to its members. The trained manpower produced goods and services supplied into market through cooperatives. Moreover, the NTUC has been working with policy makers as well as the government to introduce appropriate law, freed bonded form of labour and rights as well as welfare of the workers etc. The program was attended by Ms. Yuki Otasuji, Mr. Laxman Shahi and Mr. Indra Deo Yadav.
