Nepal Trade Union Congress submitted delegation to Prime minister through Labour and Employment Minister

Feb 23, 2017, Kathmandu.

Nepal Trade Union Congress submitted the delegation to the Priminister via honorable labour and employment minister Mr. Suryaman Gurung. The same delegation was submitted in the district administration through out the country in the mean time. While in the office of labour and employment ministry, President of Nepal Trade Union Congress handed the delegation to the Honorable minister whilst the letter was presented by General Secretary of NTUC Mr. Mahendra Prasad Yadav. 

The delegation included the newly proposed Nepal Industrial Act 2073. The act restricted the right of unionism in the country. Right to strike, Right for fair wage, right for collective bargaining and social security. The demands such as inclusion of trade union representation in the decision making level from VDC, DDC, provincial and centre. Also, coordination of labour and employment department with the trade union. Similarly, the initiation of government was mentioned under conducting the election of trade union in the same time.

Senior-Vice president of Nepal Trade Union Congress Mr. Ramjee retorted the decision of law maker. He also blamed that being a first representative party of labour movement, Nepali Congress is getting away from its foundation. This country is built by workers and labour and the provision to ignore the labour and trade union rights is shameful for the governments and he also criticized the lawmakers by claiming their increment of allowances without proper dedication in the task.

Likewise, Vice-President Ganesh Niraula said that trade union congress is not a barrier for evelopment rather it is a means. He drag the attention of the floor by showing the statistics of strike. He also added that it is the trade union who has least involved in this kind of activities. Also, Women Vice-President Ms. Rama poudel told that we have already filed the case in ILO and will request honorable minister to be the medium and solve the problem. Contiuosly, Central member of NTUC, Mr. D.P Arya vowed a concern that in joining the confernece of ILO that is to be held in upcoming month, Government of Nepal must think about its morality behaviour. They cant only participate there and make consensus while the country is steping back from the trade union rights.

Accordingly, Honorable Minister told that he vouch for the trade union movement and its activities towards the achievement of the workers and labour. He has always taken the agendas and demand of trade union seriously and will also do so in upcoming days. He made promise that he will try his best to put the issues of union rights in the parliament. The program was concluded by president Khila Nath Dahal by explaining the deadline and being positive that this delegation will work out and sooner there will be committee for the discussion of this issues.
